Today's video is brought to you by a donation from James. He didn't give me a specific topic so I'll talk about female nature and the lonely woman of the twentieth century to help everyone understand how we got to the current state of affairs between men and women. In another video I briefly spoke about how when women first started going to university and college in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century most of them were involved in talking degrees and courses in household economics. Not only was home economics a junior or high school course today but it was once a completely separate degree where women learned to become proper professional housewives and wealthy husbands and fathers sent their young wives to be schooled in household hospitality. Why would men do this? Did they want to just push women out of the way from their working lives or did men create for women what they themselves secretly longed for. Many of us have heard before that men love their families by working and being away from their families while women love their families by actually spending time with them. I'm sure that many men would be willing to spend more time with their children if they could but in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century men didn't have that luxury but that doesn't mean they didn't see it as unacceptable to give that luxury to women. For most of the twentieth century the ideal state for a woman fed to women by society and men was for women to stay at home, bake cookies, take care of the kids and keep a tidy home. This was a great way for women to stay out of the male sphere of influence, allowing men to get busy building twentieth century infrastructure, including roads, rail networks and the electric power grid. Men built what needed to get done. So, what does this have to do with men going their own way? Well you see, women breaking free of the home was sold as women's way of going their own way from what they perceived as oppressive male nature. They rebelled against being put in some of the most socially inhospitable places women have ever lived in. The suburbs are a disaster not only because they are a complete waste of energy and resources but because they cause horrible mental imbalances in women. The irony is that women demanded more living space in the suburbs for their families back in the 1940s and 1950s, but once they had the homes they always wanted, women tried desperately to escape that living arrangement. If I had to make a guess I'd say that women didn't go to work in droves in the nineteen seventies and eighties because of women's liberation and third wave feminism but I think they did it because they were extremely lonely and bored in their suburban cookie cutter homes starved of social interaction.
